Small Business Perspective

So it’s been quiet around Sun Swing Media for the past two months. I’ve taken up some “full time” contracting work for a local company up in the heart of Scottsdale. The fit with my skills set was just above what I am currently able to do, which has allowed me to continue to grow in the skills sets that I am able to offer people. It has also afforded me the opportunity to see how a business, very similar to mine, operates so that they can pay their bills and make a profit.

At the same time, we’ve had some very exciting developments on the home front with my wife’s small side business. About 10 months back she set off to launch an online training program for doula certification.  My wife started with literally nothing but an introductory chapter to her course and began selling an idea online. It has been a powerful lesson in niche marketing, website optimization, appropriate use of online advertising, and social media.

On both fronts, there is simply no replacement for hard work. A good idea is only worth so much. The willingness to do what you’ll say you’ll do is at the heart of every successful business, no matter what the size.
